How universities award through partners

Two bodies, two jobs

Partner delivery divides the work. The university holds the entitlement, sets the examinations and confers the award; the centre carries the day-to-day — classes, mentoring, doubt support, help with paperwork. The arrangement is common, lawful when built properly, and genuinely useful: a learner in a small town gets human support that a distant campus cannot give. But the division of labour creates one permanent risk. A student can spend two years dealing exclusively with the centre and never once confirm that the university knows they exist. The chain below is how you confirm it.

The chain, link by link

• Application. You apply for the university’s programme, whoever helps you fill the form. The programme name on your application should match the university’s own prospectus wording.
• Enrolment. The university issues an enrolment or registration number and your name enters its rolls. This is the load-bearing link: if the number exists only in the centre’s spreadsheet, nothing downstream can repair it.
• Fees. Whatever hands the money passes through, the amounts must reconcile with the university’s published fee schedule, and the receipts must be traceable to it.
• Study. Materials and mentoring may come from the centre — that is its legitimate role and often its whole value.
• Examinations. Conducted under the university’s control: its question papers, its admit cards, its proctoring or its centres.
• Marksheets. Issued by the university, semester by semester, under its seal — not summaries on the centre’s letterhead.
• The certificate. The final award carries the university’s name and seal and sits in the university’s records, where a verifier can find it years later.

Where chains break

Every failure mode is a version of the same event: a link that terminates at the centre instead of passing through to the university. An enrolment number the university’s portal has never heard of. Examinations set and marked by the tutor who taught the course. A qualification whose supposed awarding university, when finally asked, has no record of the candidate. None of these announce themselves at admission — which is why the checking has to happen at admission, while walking away is still cheap.

A live example

The arrangement our own network operates shows the shape when it is built correctly. On the Subharti programme, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University — the entitlement-holder — examines and awards the distance MBA, a dual-specialisation degree with a total fee of ₹65,000 across the two years, while IICT sits in the centre’s chair — the teaching, the mentoring, the day-to-day support are its work. The student enrols with the university; the certificate comes from the university; the human help comes from the centre. Two names, two roles, one chain — and each link answerable to the tests above.

What the centre may issue — and what it may not

A centre can properly issue its own receipts for its own services, study materials, timetables and support correspondence. What it cannot issue under any arrangement is the university’s paper: enrolment confirmations the university has not made, semester marksheets, or the award itself. When a document that ought to carry the university’s seal arrives carrying the centre’s instead, treat it as a wrong-way link in the chain and ask for the original before the next instalment, not after the last one.

Five questions before you enrol

• Where will my enrolment number live, and how do I log in to the university’s own system to see it?
• Whose seal will be on the semester marksheets?
• What exactly does the admission letter say about who is admitting me?
• When an employer’s verification agency writes in five years, who answers, and from which records?

A provider comfortable with all five is offering you a chain, not a story. A provider offended by them has answered anyway.
